ABOUT ANNE HOLTON
Anne Holton is a proud product of Richmond Public Schools and a grateful parent of three RPS graduates.
She has loved RPS since her time as a student at MLK Middle School (then Mosby). She attended during the first year of court-ordered desegregation, when her father, Linwood Holton, was Governor of Virginia in the 1970s. Together, she and her classmates learned from extraordinary teachers, and from each other — from their differences, from what they had in common, and from their shared experience of advancing civil rights for all.
She came away from that time with a lifelong love for Richmond Public Schools and a passion for public service.
Anne has spent her career serving Richmond children and families. She started her career as a legal aid lawyer and served as a Juvenile and Domestic Relations judge. She worked in education policy as Virginia’s Secretary of Education, served on the Virginia Board of Education, and taught as a professor at George Mason University.
She now represents the Sixth District, including her alma mater MLK Middle, on the Richmond School Board, where she is focused on ensuring every RPS student gets a strong start and a real opportunity to succeed.
Anne and her husband Tim Kaine have three adult children who got strong starts in life through RPS.
